SC: Put-Down Jayantha Ketagoda’s Controversial |Anti Democratic Bill
Highly Controversial and Heavily Criticized, Minister Jayantha Ketagoda’s private Member motion bill to the parliament to extend the tenure of duration of LG bodies without Elections was out rightly rejected by Sri Lankan Supreme Courts.
Supreme Courts Stated” with such an amendments it will violates the rules and regulations regards to electing public officials to Pradeshiya Sabha Ordinance, Municipal Council Ordinance and Urban Council Ordinance.
If were to be approved it would have indefinitely inconsistent with the democratic process of which members are being elected for those local – regional governing bodies.
When this motion was originally tabled at the parliament it has become under heavy criticism and scrutiny by many political parties, social rights groups to International organizations. Including by the Sri Lanka’s National elections commission described it as “completely an Unethical motion” that violates free and democratic values of the Nation.
