Government must – Recognize the Potential & Contribution Gradates Can make for Our Nation

At a press conference held at Colombo member of the Sri Lanka development officers Association Mr.Chandana Suriyarachchi has pointed out that “it is absolutely Appalling that the government despite employing well over 120 000 graduates within the government sectors, excluding armed services, hasn’t made or utilized the talents and capabilities of these graduates for the overall development of the nation and it’s economy.

Circumstances behind why the country’s economy has become what it is to date because none of the main parties to rulers did not contemplated about expanding and increasing the country’s production economy so that everyone can reap it’s benefit within the nation. Rather they all opted to take loans from foreign countries indiscriminately as well as to sell what ever that the country has possessed or can be categorized as valuable as it’s core service sectors.

As we can all remember at the middle of last year there was a huge uprising from Sri Lankan  society against the rulers, and they have out rightly rejected and protested  against the government. People rioted and protested because they  were led to suffer due to the actions that led to corruption of the Nation. How ever after the Protests to riots gradually subsided and the nation breath some relief, the rulers and the government it’s now once again attempting to put the  consequences of economic mismanagement and corruption primarily on the government sector workers.

As a main labor union with in government employees. Government Development Officer Association, we are preparing to make the rulers heard with our slogan that “they must take necessary steps to capture the capabilities and capacity of graduates employed within the government sector to engage them that would make an active contribution to Sri Lanka’s production economy”.

And as highly educated individuals, we are more than willing to play our part and duty in making the contribution to Sri Lanka’s economy for it’s future advancement.

We do not appreciate being confined-expected to carryout regular office document related office day work and casual duties, just for the sake for receiving a salary. We highly appreciates and demands that we will be given an opportunity and recognition to play an active role in elevating, expanding increasing country’s production economy“.

As of to date 9th of August 2023  as one of Sri Lanka’s main labor rights unions, we will be putting out to requests & demands that we hope government will listen and  provide us with satisfactory solution.

the Government must come up with an effective solution that will make the best use of graduates who are entering into government service sector with their unique specialties from the fields where they have graduated from and based on those provide them with suitable opportunities to make an active contribution to the countries economy.

Also Government must reinstate pension facility for all the Government employees who had entered into the government service since the year 2016.

Mr.Chandana Suriyarachchi Had further clarified back in 2016 when the present president was the prime minister his government took a decision to take away pension privilege from all employees who we accumulated into Governor service sector .
