Strict Measures Against Doctors Migrating—without Official Notification.
“Doctors will not be permitted to leave the country without the proper authorization and permission from health ministry officials. “according to Dr. G. Wijesuriya, Deputy Director General (Medical Services).
The Sri Lankan health ministry officials were compelled to take significant measures following the discovery that the only anesthesiologist working at the Embilipitiya District General Hospital had departed from the country without any notification to the relevant authorities or obtaining appropriate permission.
Deputy Director General Dr. G. Wijesuriya further asserted “provisions for legal action is more than possible if indeed medical doctor do leaves the country without obtaining proper authorization and permission from the health ministry authorities”. There is an apparent trend among doctors wherein they choose to relocate according to their own choices, without taking into account other aspects from the standpoint of health officials.
Henceforth, health authorities will be implementing stringent measures with regard to such doctors. The decision on the approach and subsequent steps will be made at a later point in time. Medical professionals who migrate without obtaining the necessary authorization from the relevant authorities will be subject to appropriate measures and consequences.
The Sri Lankan health ministry authorities have recently disclosed that they have blacklisted more than 103 medical consultants who left the country without duly announcing the authorities. Furthermore, there are further consultants who are currently under consideration for blacklisting, as stated by the ministry.
