Milinda Moragoda’s Tenure Unlikely to be Extended
It has been revealed that the present Sri Lankan high Commissioner Mr. Milinda Moragoda’s appointment will not be further extended by the government. Even though not yet officially acknowledged many credible sources had confirmed Mr. Moragoda will be requested to return to the island once his tenure to be ended by October 1st .
His appointment was provided to him by former ousted president, Gotabaya Rajapakse.
Prior to being appointed as the high Commissioner for Sri Lanka, he sat for the last parliamentary elections but, had failed to attain enough votes to secure a seat and he wasn’t provided the opportunity to enter to parliament through the national list either.
It should be noted that Mr. Moragoda wasn’t necessarily well liked or preferred by many political circles with in Sri Lanka. Many considers him to be somewhat with controversial ideas and values.
Recently with the president’s visit to India he is one of the proponents that stresses and spearheaded the notion that, building of a land Bridge between India and Sri Lanka would be beneficial for the nation. Specially with these types suggestions that haven’t been well thought through, many have criticized him for his failure to see severe consequences and drawbacks country likely to face in the long term.
