Sri Lanka Faced with an Acute Shortage of —Yellow Fever Vaccines…

Citing an article published on Hiru News, It has been reported that the Sri Lankan health authorities no longer possess sufficient or any stockpile of yellow fever vaccine that has been administered to all Sri Lankans that go abroad.

Additionally this situation is said to have created a barrier for certain Sri Lankans to gain permission to enter into another country while they arrive at that country.

In the meantime doctors and medical disease specialists point out that due to this vaccine being lacking within the Medical Research Institute’s International disease prevention division for the past couple of months a probability has emerged of disease being spreading throughout Sri Lanka.

According to World Health Organization’s (WHO) International regulations regarding the prevention of contagious diseases, It is the duty of the member countries to ascertain and to provide its citizens with disease prevention vaccines that have been internationally Categorized as contagious in its nature.

Due to not possessing any vaccines to be administered to Sri Lankan citizens both who are leaving the country as well as arriving for the country. It has created a situation where a possibility of yellow fever being spread through Sri Lankan International passengers. This current situation can be very unacceptable from other nations’ perspective where they might be forced to barred entry of Sri Lankans into their own country.

This situation in Sri Lanka is entitled to be considered as a violation of World Health Organization regulation as a result Sri Lankans could be blacklisted altogether if authorities do not take necessary steps in obtaining necessary yellow fever vaccines immediately.
