Minister of public security Mr. Tiran Alles stated that authorities are gravely concerned about the aftermath, following an aggravating incident took place last Sunday among state workers, where a statement made by a prominent public representative had the potential of citing haterade and violence within society, Minister had pleaded to Sri Lankan general public with the message that “not to get carried away or to believe in such gross irresponsible statements”.
He further clarified within the statement made by the individual he claimed that “if the government and security forces are not there or are not willing to provide safety assurance for the people we the people have no choice but to defend ourselves as we wish. Not only that if we felt threatened we have the right to retaliate against the opposing party.
What is really worrying and concerning is the amount of publicity this statement had been given and the amount of popularity it had gained, particularly within Sri Lankan social media domains.
Minister pleaded to the general Sri Lankan public not to believe in such antisocial and anti governmental statements and by believing in such claims not to get themselves involved in illegal activities that could disturb the social harmony of the country.
Minister stated “Certain politicians and political factions make use of such incidents to sway public opinion towards themselves with the gross intention of attaining popularity among masses”.
He has reiterated if some group or individuals do intend on disturbing social harmony or challenging the authorities of the country’s government. For the sake of public wellbeing under no circumstances we will not tolerate such actions being taken place and swiftly do what is necessary to prevent such incidents escalating further or have taken place at all to begin with.
