SL Postal Department “WARNS” of a SCAM-FAKE Website Existence…

The Sri Lanka Postal department has issued a warning regarding the existence of a fraudulent website posing as the Sri Lanka Postal department. Because the majority of internet service providers in Sri Lanka and web browsers themselves offer a high level of tolerance and protection against false scam sites and prevent users from being redirected to them, Users cannot be redirected to these websites unless they do so voluntarily and on purpose.

Investigations have revealed that individuals who provided their phone numbers for the courier service of items received an SMS message that directed them to a fraudulent website masquerading as the official website of the Sri Lankan postal service.

“Once the user accesses the site, they are prompted to make a small online payment, and a second window reportedly opens instructing them to enter the debit or credit card information used for the online transaction. In addition, once the user has supplied this information, they are said to receive an OTP code assuring them that the transaction was successful. So in the contrary end uses will not be able to make an assumption any suspicious activity had been taken place”.

And once these Bank card details are provided, these details are said to be transferred to a third party, after clients claim they have lost their entire savings in the bank accounts for which they have provided information.

The Sri Lankan Postal Department has stated that no individuals or groups have been identified in relation to this fraudulent website or the fraudulent activities conducted under it, and that investigations are still ongoing.
