SL Public Services United Nurses UNION Strongly — A G A I N S T— Enrolling Art Stream Students(warned the government)
Sri Lanka’s public services United Nurses Union has expressed their absolute disapproval decision taken by the Health Authorities and the Government to allow student who had done advanced level examinations through the art stream to be enrolled into Government Nurses training programs.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka’s Public Services United Nurses Union “Mruththetuwe Ananda Himi” said, that they are strongly against the government decision and warned the government “there will be indefinite action against the decision by Healthcare unions throughout the country by strikes and walk outs”.
Chairman of the Union “Mruththetuwe Ananda Himi”, further added…
“We are well aware that there is an acute shortage of qualified nurses being taking place, due to so many nurses are leaving the country to work abroad, but to fulfill that emerging shortage, this is not an acceptable solution“.
“their must be stringent standards when it comes to recruiting qualified personnel to health care system that directly engage with treating patients“.
This is why ever since, from the past for government nursing profession, only students who have Undertaken advanced level through bioscience streams were allowed to enter into government Nursing training programs conducted through nursing colleges in Sri Lanka.
It is the higher standard of recruitment what has led to producing Nurses with great recognition by Sri Lanka throughout the world.
And by permitting students who has followed advanced level through art streams, to enter into nursing training programs, it will indefinitely harm the quality and the standards Sri Lankan Government trained nurses.
