Health Ministry’s “Keep Your Mouth Shut” — Circular Withdrawn—All Island Strike Called-Off
In the wake of many patients underwent through treatment in Sri Lankan government hospitals started developing serious side effects to Illnesses to even some handful of number patients(unconfirmed-caused by imported medication) ended up as fatalities, Healthcare workers unions working under the health ministry held media conferences accusing the Government of responsible by blaming it on medications that have been imported to the country without proper standard & quality.
In the wake of multiple incidences taken place and the health ministry became under relentless attack – criticism by many health care professional bodies to health science professionals.
To avert It’s reputation being tarnished, government Health ministry opted to take control of the situation by issuing and extraordinary circular that
“prohibits any two all Healthcare professional employed under health ministry making any sort of a public announcements to media releases“.
The circular was heavily criticized not just buy government Healthcare professionals but also buy many labor unions in both working within the governments and Non-governmental trade unions.
Due to the Circular is direct attack and violation of free speech & right to information.
Even till yesterday 01st of August 2023, health ministry reiterated that the circular will not be withdrawn, and the health workers unions have threatened the government as they will not be attending for work on the 3rd of August 2023 holding an all Island Strike to protest against the Circular.
But today 02nd August 2023, it has been reported that the talks held between Government Health Care Unions and Health ministry has come to an agreement where Health ministry has agreed to withdraw the controversial circular while Healthcare unions has agreed to called off the scheduled all island strike.
