No Confidence Motion Against—Health Minister (Keheliya Rambukwella) Must Succeed.

Two medical doctors Dr. Ajith Amarasinghe and Dr. Nilupul Pererawho are the members of Political party Eksath Janaraja Peramuna led by the Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has sincerely demanded all members of the Parliament to support against the no confidence motion been bought up against Minister of health Keheliya Rambulwella.

Two physicians made these remarks at a media briefing conducted at the office of the Eksath Janaraja Peramuna Party. And they point out that if the motion were to pass in parliament, the ruling government would be compelled to implement changes to the national healthcare system that would benefit the average Sri Lankan.

They both elaborated on how his incompetence and unwillingness to address the system’s fundamental problems have exacerbated the widespread corruption and mismanagement that has persisted for years within the Sri Lankan National Healthcare system.

Dr. Amarasinghe reaffirmed that Health Minister Keheliya Rambulwella should be held accountable for all of the mishaps and catastrophes that patients have endured, as well as the crisis that has engulfed the entire national Healthcare sector. He should be held accountable for incidents such as the acute shortage of medicine and the frequent failure of certain medical diagnostic equipment (due to improper maintenance), the approval of the importation of substandard medication, the deaths of patients throughout the national health care system, the mass exodus of medical professionals employed within the national health care system, and so many system failures.

This No confidence motion against the health Minister Keheliya Rambulwella is been produced  before the parliament by the SJB party.

The spokesperson for the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA), Dr. Chamila Wijesinghe, stated that it may be plausible to argue that the health Minister is responsible for all the major failures that have occurred throughout the National Health care system, but the overall failure of the system’s cannot be reversed by passing a vote of no confidence against the health minister.

Minister Dr. Kavinda Jayawardana and Minister Harshana Rajakaruna have filed a fundamental rights petition with the Supreme Court seeking an order to establish an independent probe committee to inquire into health ministry authorities, including the Health Minister himself and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), over authorizing the importation of substandard Pharmaceutical products and critical medical equipment’s. As respondents, they named Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, the Chairman of NMRA, its members, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, and others.

Ravi Kumudesh, president of the College of Medical Laboratory Science, emphasized that the public’s pessimism cannot be restored unless the government takes drastic measures to change the senior management of the national healthcare system. The public’s pessimism has grown over the past few months as a result of numerous incidents.

Dr. Ravi Kumudesh elaborated that even if Minister Keheliya Rambulwella were to be replaced as a result of a vote of no confidence, it would not improve the current state of the national healthcare system. Both the government and the opposition must agree on a long-term framework of action in order for the health care system to experience significant positive change and development.
