Why? What—PURPOSE Police Provided (with) Armored Personnel Carriers ..For…?

In a lavish well publicized ceremony held with the participation of both the Top-Brass of the Sri Lankan military and with the Sri Lankan police chiefs, the police was handed over with either refurbished or decommissioned Armored personnel carriers originally destined to be used by United Nations peace keeping forces in foreign countries.

Interestingly enough despite being claimed to be developed, which implies being designed and manufactured by Sri Lankan army’s engineers core, the provided vehicles carries the UN (United Nations) logo crystal clearly from the left to right to rear sides.

(it is obvious, that the POLICE was in a such a hurry to receive them that they wouldn’t want to wait till a proper paint job is done on them or couldn’t care less about being miss identified as of belonging to United Nation’s Peace keeping forces).

In a country, that went through so many conflicts…

…from it’s 30 plus years long separatist arm-struggle to very own Singhalese fought against the very-own government (1989) for political & economic rights, to very recent, last year 2022 people rioted against the government that led to ousting of a president,

It is totally & utterly make no sense for the government to be either purchasing or to be investing into providing Sri Lankan police with battlefield proven vehicles. (Vehicles specifically designed for warzone).

Colombonews.lk did looked into this actual model and it is very similarly resembles and armed personnel carrier been manufactured by Indian vehicle manufacturer Mahindra Mahindra (https://www.mahindraarmored.com/armoured/apc/stratonPlus.asp#gsc.tab=0)

But however the local variant seems to be very much scaled-down version of the original Straton Plus of the Mahindra armored personnel carrier.

Why ? Police, Asked or been provided with Battlefield proven vehicles ?

It is worth noting that the police is an intricate part of civil society where they represents the primary layer keep civil society under law and order.

POLICE BRUTALITY

Term police brutality it’s nothing new to anyone who has been engaged with international news,

It is not something confined to United States, it is a very common social phenomenon, that almost exist universally throughout every country in the world,

The role of the government, is not to equipped police with military grade hardware it has to be said “in many developed countries they have developed special kinds of weapons commonly known as non lethal weapons”.

And the primary purpose of these non-lethal weapons are indeed to contain the threat to both the society as well as to police it self but however minimizing the physical harm for damage done to the person that will be targeted in by the police.

Sri Lanka POLICE Have never Heard of NON-Lethal Weapons, bothered to Care – at all.

So in comparison with other countries where they are actually investing in non lethal weapons, Sri Lankan government seems to be actively and heavily investing in equipping if not arming the police with military grade hardware.

The only reasons we can think of that make sense why, the Sri Lankan police is provided with military grade vehicles is that Police itself carry is a guilt that because of them the rioters became successful on the populist people’s struggle ARAGALAYA last year and have managed to defeat the Government (Actually Police chiefs has certain resentment towards them selves).

And that resentment is personal. So these APC are not just being provided as a complete Surprise rather as a Very Personal Request being made to the government by the top Police chiefs of the Country.

Exactly what is this Armored Personnel carrier capable of …..😱 😱 😱…no Joke!

In the most simplest context without getting into too much technical details which hardly relevant to the average reader this vehicle is capable of resisting rocket propelled grenade (commonly knows as RPG) attacks, IEDs also known as improvised explosive devices land mind as well as granade attacks and also capable of withstanding for armored piecing rounds.

So unfortunately we had to ask the hard question of what is the purpose of all of this ? because hardly any people participated within last years ARAGALAYA had anything remotely resembling a lighter weapon to anything that can be called as a weapon that implies to knives to sharp objects to bats..etc. but for what ever reason even almost after year has passed the Police is given with while country’s majority struggles to make ends meat, with military grade vehicles. Keep in mind these vehicles price tag is costs well into seven figures in Sri Lankan rupees if not beyond.

It is truly ironic that no one seems to question the  actual motives behind police beam provided with these types of vehicle and all the media outlets through the country has celebrated the fact, the police been provided with military grade vehicles. Come to think of it not many people with his Sri Lanka knowledgeable or sensible about norms within the rest of the world particularly in developed countries. and that is one the reasons the country it self has become this much chaotic in many aspects.

Was this interesting?
