The Deadly Bacterial Infection that Claimed Lives of (Inmates at Galle Prison)—Had Invaded Greater Colombo.

According to credible news sources it has been confirmed  that an individual who has been infected with the same bacterial infection that had claimed the lives of 3 inmates at prison of Galle and  left  another 7 or so  number of inmates with severe illnesses have been found within Western province ja-Ela region.

What’s been reported so far is that the individual has been identified as a 49 year old male and he is said to have been employed and working within the Rathmalana region. The individual went on to receive treatment for General Sir John Kotelawela University  Hospital for a fever condition he was suffering through. While he was receiving treatment he was put through several medical tests and afterwards transferred to Colombo General Hospital. 

What has not been confirmed is that at which stage the authorities had fully confirmed that this individual was indeed infected with a virus that had  previously infected inmates within the Galle prison.

The bacterial infection that is said to have infected the Prisoners has been identified as Meningococcal Disease. According to data available through United States CDC authority There are two main types of the disease as Meningococcal meningitis & Meningococcal septicemia. According to medical documentation it been mentioned within a couple of hours of being infected it has a higher probability of producing symptoms of severe illnesses. And whoever is suspected of having been infected is highly advised to request professional medical intervention at all costs immediately.

Details about the infected patient and what had taken place so far has been revealed by Rathmalana  district Health inspector Dr. J.M. Gunathilake. He had further clarified that as a precautionary measure all of the coworkers, colleagues and subordinates working with him at his workplace have been administered with vaccines.

Addition to what had taken place chairman of the Sri Lanka health workers Union Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa stated “it is very significant that even a single individual with this bacteria (Meningococcal Disease) had been found and clearly identified by the authorities“.

Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa further stated that “we sincerely request from the director of western  province Health Services as well as from director of the Southern province Health Services, due to within upcoming days all the schools within these regions are to be opened. What are the precautionary steps and measures taken by relevant authorities with regards to prevention of the spread  of a certain category of brain fever and they must publicize it publicly.  And in addition to that, what steps have been taken to prevent parents from not sending their children to school under the circumstance of fear of certain diseases can be spreading among children.
