Head of Intelligence (Suresh Sallay) go before Courts Demanding 50 million in Damages…

Sri Lanka’s National Head of Intelligence Mr. Suresh Sallay testified before the Colombo district court that while there is already a legal case being processed by the Sri Lankan judicial system, certain individuals are making statements about the Easter attacks, thereby severely harming his reputation.

The director of Intelligence has initiated legal action against the televised zoom meeting held on October 23, 2021. Where he argues that the statements made by the event’s participants severely damaged his reputation and credibility as the chief of national intelligence.

One of the participants in the Zoom conference was Father Cyril Gamage, and the remark he made had both international and national ramifications, affecting his personal life, including his family, and making it difficult for him to carry out his professional duties.

When this case was being heard, the accused, father Cyril Gamage was also present. The head of intelligence has demanded that the accused defended pay him 50 million rupees for the harm he caused to his credibility and his family’s reputation.

It has also been reported that electronic media containing damaging statements made by the father against the chief of Intelligence has been submitted as evidence in court.

On behalf of the accusing party (prosecution), attorney Pahan Weerasinghe has made an appearance.

As he elaborates on the evidence he has presented, the accuser responds to his attorney’s queries. as “I’ve worked in this profession for the past 36 years, and I’d like to reiterate that the father’s statements posed a threat to me and my family, specifically my two children. People must realize that by making such statements while a court investigation is already underway, they create a false and unintended impression of what transpired and make us as those in command responsible for certain activities“. Particularly the statement he made generates a negative impression of myself in society.

He elaborated that there are four members of my family, three of whom are members of the Sri Lankan armed forces, and some of whom have lost appendages and arms on the battlefield. In addition, I would like to point out that because of these statements, I was forced to remove my children from the institutions they were attending for safety reasons, and that the statement had a negative impact on my professional life.

Moreover, it has been reported that the accused has produced an affidavit detailing what transpired and how it affected him personally and professionally.

Presidential lawyers Shamil Perera and Wimal Rathwaththa appeared before the courts on behalf of the accused father Cyril Gamage. The court hearings regarding the matter have been postponed until January 25.
