Beyond “PATHETIC” —Met Dpt. Prediction of Flooding in November…

Sri Lanka meteorological department out of desperation not being able to provide relevant predictions and and suitable recommendations particularly in regards to severe drought taking place throughout the country, has put out a completely & utterly ridiculous statement claiming “By November Sri Lanka would receive so much rain that we should be in preparation for flooding to take place”.

We had to ask exactly on what or which dimension these officials are actually living at presently ? In fact should we even be apologetic towards the Sri Lankan Meteorological Department criticizing them in a way as “has the department lost sense of time & reality completely ?”.

This is because very prominent intellectuals as well as scientists have predicted & had warned in advance, that a prolonged drought is to be experienced by the country.

And they have mentioned  Meteorological Department had a crucial role to be played in informing & educating government institutions and relevant authorities in regards to pending crises to take place, but thus so far little to none had been done on behalf of the Sri Lankan Meteorological Department.

Because of not receiving an abundance of rain the severe drought has impacted every aspect of the Sri Lankan society and its economy. From hydroelectric power generation to essential food security where national food production being severely hampered not to mention even the creatures in the wild has faced up with  scarcity of water to people specially residing on dry seasonal areas of Sri Lanka finding it extremely difficult or almost impossible to attain sufficient daily freshwater requirements.

It is the Meteorological departments fault, their failure to prepare the nation in advance that has led to this complete mess.

And now today 22nd of August 2023 it has been reported “clear cut, the Sri Lankan Meteorological department is predicting that the island will receive an abundance of rain within the months of November onwards. In fact the department is so adamant about its prediction that it says

“we should be preparing for expected floods to take place as a result of downpour of rain”.

The statement is said to have been put out by a spokesperson behalf of Meteorological Department “within the November there will be considerably higher downpour of rain be expected due to El Nino and Indian ocean dipole situation”.

“The department only will be able to make accurate predictions by the month of October but what we can say for now is that there is an actual probability that Sri Lanka will experience flooding as a result of expected rain from the November month”.

For us at Colombonews.lk can make a sense of this is that the meteorological department is indeed attempting to divert blame and criticism pointed at them due to not playing a critical -vital role in preventing or preparing the country for the experiencing severe drought currently taking place.
