National (DEDICATED) Act for Electric Vehicles to be Introduced

Government said to be in the process of formulating a National act for Motor Vehicles. And within the act, a National dedicated act for Electric Motor Vehicles alone to be introduced.

Details of this development has been disclosed by Mr. Gamini Ranasinghe, member of advisory committee on electrical and electronic industry’s development with in the Ministry of Industrial development.

He stated Ministry is in the process of formulating a national framework dedicated to Electric vehicles and approving it through parliament to be implemented as a National Act.

He further clarified intended long term objectives of the act is to set up proper guidelines and boundaries in regards to assembling of Electric motor vehicles to components, production of spare parts and also importation to exportation relating to electric motor vehicles with in Sri Lanka.
