Xpress Pearl —Sri Lankan Government Agreed to SUB-Claims Payment
It has been reported that the Sri Lankan Government has agreed for the payment to receive a Sub-Claim in regards to the Express-Pearl cargo ship disaster that took place within Sri Lankan territorial waters back in June of 2021.
Government decision to accept the payment has been officially notified for the cargo ship’s insurance company as well as for the law firm representing the company.
This sub claim was officially initiated by Sri Lanka’s cost conservation and coastal resource management department. According to the Sri Lanka Attorney General office as a sub claim Sri Lanka will be entitled to receive a sum of 80$ million and additionally another 16 million Rupees. Previously both the insurance company as well as the law firm representing the shipping company had agreed to provide the requested amount. As a result of their compliance the government had agreed to accept the payment.
Discussions in regards to damages being claimed by the Sri Lankans were held at Singapore and the amounts to be paid has been agreed upon by both parties.
