Substantial Increase — National Water Supply Tariff Chargers.

While the average Sri Lanka’s consumer to every citizen barely struggling to make ends meal, the government has substantially  increased tariff chargers on usage of water usage provided through National Water Supply board.

The increase of new tariff charges will be coming to effect from the 1st of August 2023.

This notification of revision of tariffs has been issued by Minister of Water Supply and State Infrastructure Development, Jeevan Thondaman, under Section 84 of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board Law No. 02 of 1974.

Thankfully if not gratefully government do have decided, not to make the increased tariffs to be applicable for extreme low income social groups  that has been identified as  Samurdhi beneficiaries and estate houses.

Within the new tariff revision, tariffs for all sectors has been increased and the domestic water tariff has also been increased from Rs.20.00 per unit for the first 05 units | to Rs.60.00 per unit.

Just about every institution under the government umbrella of Services has been included into the the new tariff revision. These include public water taps, garden water taps, government schools, religious places, government-approved charities, government institutions and government hospitals.

Through this Revision the Monthly Service Charge has been also Increased. – It is worth  mentioning to all Sri Lankans that when it come to Annual Bonus salaries provided for employees of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board this segment of service charge is what actually is been incurred into.

😁🤑🤑😲 We can also say with absolute credibility that when it comes to Bonus Salaries, even though  these figures are hidden from Sri Lankan’s public view, the bonuses  provided by National Water Supply and Drainage Board said to be one of the highest if not the highest of any Sri Lankan government institution  🤑🤑🤑😲

So much for tariff hikes.

Prior to this last year 2022 September National Water Supply and Drainage Board did raised the tariffs also. It seems like this is an annually increasing never ending cycle, completely disregarding difficult  economic situation of the vast majority of the Sri Lankan public.

The newly revised tariff charges are as follows.

0 – 5 unit charge Rs.60 & monthly charge Rs.300

6 – 10 unit charge Rs.80 & monthly charge Rs.300

11 – 15 unit charge Rs.100 & monthly charge Rs.300
