SL (MOD) Denounces—UK.CHANNEL(04)Easter Sunday Attacks Documentary

Channel 4’s documentary on Sri Lanka’s Easter Sunday attacks has been condemned by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense as an international propaganda campaign against the Sri Lankan the Armed Forces.

MOD has severely critical what has been disclosed within the documentary. Allegedly, elements of military intelligence played a crucial role in the planning and execution of the Easter Sunday Attacks. In particularly current director general of the state intelligence services (SIS) Major General Suresh Sallay was involved.

An official statement released by the Ministry of Defense has vehemently denied what has been stipulated through the channel for documentary as “A malevolent and unsupported story.”

According to the information provided in the documentary, the Department of Defense clarifies that Major General Suresh Sallay was not in the country during the specified time periods. In addition, he had not held any senior positions within the country’s intelligence and security apparatus during that time also.

In regards to the attacks, the government has coordinated the assistance of numerous international agencies. And through their and local authorities’ joint investigations, they have concluded that the Easter Sunday attacks were planned and carried out by a radical extremist group led by ISIS-affiliated Zaharan Hasim.

The Ministry of Defense has emphasized the findings presented by recognized international law and enforcement organizations, including the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Australian Federal Police, and the US Department of Justice. They have all arrived to the same conclusion as the local Sri Lankan authorities.

The Ministry of Defense has provided clarification affirming its recognition and respect for the fundamental rights of free speech and freedom of expression. However, it is important to note that UK Channel 4 will bear responsibility for all the consequences and potential unforeseen results that may arise due to the production and publication of this documentary.
