Artificial intelligence capable of —Proactively Protecting Critical infrastructure and Preventing Cyber-Attacks…

Experts within cyber security had revealed that if artificial intelligence aided cyber security apparatus were employed it could have prevented large scale cyber attacks such as the colonial pipeline attack that took place in May of 2021.

Commenting on the incident, the chief financial officer of Nanotronics,( https://nanotronics.co/) a newly created Industrial AI company quoted “colonial pipeline attack was the largest coordinated cyber attack on critical US infrastructure. And the underlying circumstances which lead to attackers being successful was the protection layer being heavily outdated.

With certain infrastructure such as manufacturing to Healthcare systems within hospitals they do not necessarily make use of up to date technologies and because of such circumstances these systems  become vulnerable to cyber attacks. “They are the low hanging fruit for Cyber attackers”

Within the past couple of years it is not just critical energy infrastructure that came under attack. Satellite systems, schools, hospitals have come under attack. Earlier this month alone the FBI was investigating ransomware attacks that had taken place in major hospitals across four separate States.

Details of these attacks can be documented as follows: Prospect Medical Holdings, which operates 16 hospitals within California, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island to 166 separate outpatient clinics centers were also targeted.

As a direct result  of these cyber attacks all pending surgeries and shuttered facilities for wound healing, imaging, gastroenterology, podiatry, urgent care and women’s wellness were put on indefinite hold. According to the Associated press Emergency departments in the Manchester Memorial and Rockville General hospitals were shut down.

However Nanotronics claims this is an area where artificial intelligence can indeed facilitate in preventing such large scale attacks either taking place or to mitigating and escalating the situation becoming even worse for an already compromised system. Artificial intelligence aided systems can very distinctively identify what a normal system looks like and how these institutions  should be operating under normal conditions in the event of a system being compromised.

Under normal circumstances what humans’ course of action would be is to completely shut down if not to segregate the compromised system.  But such actions  can be costly for both the consumers as well as its operators. And there is no guarantee the system will come back online normally.

Nanotronics further clarified when a critical infrastructure system does not operate normally as it’s intended to be and also gradually failing, a powerful artificial intelligent embedded subsystem can detect and identify where these issues have taken place and guide humans to see and check its specific malfunctioning  aspects for probable root causes.

Through such a mechanism “It significantly minimizes the damage and allows systems to overcome the attack.”

Within the year 2021 alone it has been reported that United States owned  financial institutions had processed  payments amounting for well over 1.2  billion US dollars specifically related to Ransomware attacks.

For well organized cyber criminal institutions to organizations this landscape provides them with a very lucrative prospect of making a huge income.

Nanotronics “we think it’s only going to get worse, But we have methods right now with artificial intelligence aided systems to deal with this problem and minimize damage and risk, whether it’s a major pipeline or a local hospital or any other critical infrastructure facility”
