SL Health Ministry’s —Draconian Circular, Prohibiting- Healthcare professionals making statements to Free-Press

Once prestigious globally renowned, Sri Lankan Healthcare system’s image was severely tarnished & call into question  after it started making through to headlines for all the wrong reasons for the past couple of months due to so many incidences taken place.

Due to the county’s economic collapse & hardships, the publicly funded Healthcare system became undertrain due to the inability to allocate adequate funding for it’s overall operations particularly for medication that had to be imported.

As a result  Health ministry was forced to allocate medication that are commonly known as bio similar if not generic variations of original medication that are design for certain treatment and illnesses. The problem is due to these medications are not the original variant medicine, to assess the effectiveness they had to be properly tested under the supervision of an independent third party.

So as a result it is not very clear that how many of the substitute meditation that has been  imported to the country have went through relevant if not required stringent quality assurance testing.

Over the past couple of months, many patients  who went through treatment throughout government hospitals, had suffered considerable side effects to even some unfortunate fatalities.

That of course unequivocally denied by the government Healthcare authority “as been due to the medications that were imported” under special importation requirements.

It is truly fascinating that government keep appointing the so called Special Investigative Teams to investigate the side effects to severe illnesses being occurring among  patients who has been administered with certain imported medication which under scrutiny.

We had to ask unlike in western countries where due to such a circumstances, were found to be caused by the medications, the health authority not only be held accountable but compensation of damages must be provided for the victims, when was the last time either Sri Lankan health ministry or Healthcare professionals were held a  accountable for their actions.

But then again come to think of it this is one of the dire-consequences going under treatment within a if not within the free-Healthcare system. Simply put it —No Strings Attached.

These are not the only problems  being occurring throughout Sri Lankan National Healthcare system, last couple of weeks ago they were also reports of that the electricity power supply for the country’s major hospitals including the National hospital Colombo, were to be halted due to electricity bills been not settled for well into 6 months straight.

In a country that has a certain Extreme-tendency towards Show-Offs  and Cliché (outward expression to tourists “everything is “GOOD & OK”) it does not tolerate hard facts and truth being spoken about by the very people if not professionals who are employed by the very Healthcare system under scrutiny belonging to the government.

Health-ministry has come under enormous pressure and its credibility being questioned after many Healthcare professionals belonging to union’s of Healthcare governing bodies went after the government, making claims about circumstances that might have led the countries Healthcare system to its current crisis.

To avoid the health ministry’s credibility coming under scrutiny & being questioned for it’s own mistakes, the government has put out a circular that prohibits any if not all Healthcare professionals working under the government healthcare ministry, giving press release to any broadcaster without prior permission and authorization being provided to them by the health ministry.

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, has insisted the very purpose of the circular is to safeguard the credibility of the national Healthcare system being compromised and it must be implemented to prevent further deterioration of the situation being escalated where majority Sri Lankan public were to loose trust in the National Healthcare system altogether.

In unprecedented joint statement by held by Health Care professionals representing Sri Lanka’s major healthcare bodies, have condemned this circular dubbed as ” keep your mouth shut circular” and government must abolish and remove it immediately.

If it wasn’t removed all major unions belonging to government healthcare profession plans to conducts an all Island Strike on the following 3rd of August 2023. Stating that trade unions not belonging to healthcare profession has also pledged their support to condemn the Circular as an attack on freedom of speech & right to information prospective.
